Gpixel Expands Portfolio of Large-Format Scientific Image Sensors for Astronomy and Scientific Applications with GSENSE64105BSI

date:2026-01-19

January 19, 2026 – Changchun, China / Antwerp, Belgium — Gpixel today announces GSENSE64105BSI, a new large-format scientific CMOS (sCMOS) image sensor combining a 104.8-megapixel square array with 6.4 μm pixels to deliver super-high resolution, exceptional sensitivity, ultra-low noise and >95 dB intra-scene dynamic range for the most demanding astronomical and scientific imaging applications. With a 65.5 mm × 65.5 mm photosensitive area and highly efficient on-chip dual-gain HDR readout, GSENSE64105BSI extends Gpixel’s leadership in large-format sCMOS designed for scientific and astronomy applications.

“Large field with high resolution, low noise, high quantum efficiency and stable HDR are the critical pillars for next-generation scientific and astronomy cameras,” said Wim Wuyts, CCO of Gpixel. “GSENSE64105BSI brings these elements together in a balanced, power-efficient platform that makes it easier for instrument builders to push both sensitivity and dynamic range at very large formats.”

Designed for Demanding Scientific Applications

GSENSE64105BSI is engineered for the most challenging domains of astronomy and scientific imaging, where large-area uniformity, low noise and high dynamic range are essential. Its expansive 65.5 mm square format enables wide-field optical systems to capture extended regions of the sky or large experimental fields in a single exposure, reducing mosaic complexity and improving photometric consistency. The sensor’s high full-well capacity and low-noise dual-gain architecture help resolve both luminous and extremely faint sources simultaneously, supporting applications such as deep-sky imaging, transient detection, and precision photometry.

The addition of super-high resolution capability makes the GSENSE64105BSI an excellent match for instruments requiring enhanced spatial detail—whether in high-resolution imaging of astronomical structures, large-scale sky surveys, advanced spectroscopy setups, or laboratory experiments in the physical sciences where fine spatial accuracy and high stability are key. Its stable rolling shutter, precisely timed LVDS readout, programmable gain and black-level controls, and temperature-sensing features further ensure consistent, high-quality operation in both observatory-grade and research environments.

Key Features and Benefits

· High resolution and large square format for wide field capture
10240 × 10240 (≈104.8 MP) active area supporting demanding optical systems seeking wide, uniform fields.

· High quantum efficiency and low dark signal
Peak QE of 75% (550 nm), complemented by a dark current of 6.28 e⁻/s/pix (20 °C), ideal for long-duration exposures.

· Ultra-low noise with dual-gain HDR
Read noise of 1.25 e⁻ (12 bit HDR) and 1.7e⁻ (13 bit HG), enabling 98.8 dB HDR for scenes spanning bright and faint signals.

· High full-well capacity
FWC of 110 ke⁻ (12 bit HDR path, 13 bit LG) provides high capacity for bright or extended sources without premature saturation.

· Robust LVDS multi-lane output
24 LVDS data pairs plus 4 DDR clock channels at 280 Mbps per lane, supported by training patterns and SYNC decoding for reliable downstream alignment.

· Power-efficient large-format operation
Typical power consumption below 1.6 W simplifies thermal integration in vacuum or cryogenic environments.

· Comprehensive on-chip controls
